Biss Buru Hold Experienced TC Sports in DPL Qualifiers

Biss Buru Sports

Malé Region champions Biss Buru Sports Club began their Dhivehi Premier League Qualifiers 2026/27 campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against TC Sports Club at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

The encounter pitted one of the country’s emerging regional champions against a TC Sports side that competed in last season’s Dhivehi Premier League, setting up an intriguing battle between ambition and experience.

Biss Buru showed little sign of nerves on the national stage and matched their more experienced opponents throughout the contest. The Malé Region champions demonstrated the form that earned them qualification to the tournament and took the game to TC Sports on several occasions.

TC Sports, meanwhile, entered the qualifiers determined to secure an immediate return to the upper half of Maldivian football after finishing in the bottom half of the previous Dhivehi Premier League season. Their experience at the top level was evident, but they found Biss Buru difficult to break down.

The match produced two goals, with both sides finding the net once before settling for a share of the points. Despite opportunities at both ends, neither team could find a decisive winner.

For Biss Buru, the result will be viewed as an encouraging start against opponents with Premier League experience. The Malé side showed they have the quality and determination to compete for promotion.

TC Sports, on the other hand, may feel they missed an opportunity to claim all three points against a regional champion making its first appearance in the national qualification tournament.

The draw leaves both teams with a point from their opening match and keeps the race for qualification wide open as the tournament continues.
