Bangladesh Target Final After Battling to Draw Against Pakistan

Bangladesh head coach A K M Maruful Haque says his side arrived at the Diamond Jubilee Tournament with ambitions of reaching the final after securing a hard-fought goalless draw against Pakistan in their opening match.

Bangladesh earned a valuable point despite playing the final 30 minutes with 10 men, producing a disciplined defensive display to frustrate Pakistan and keep their clean sheet intact.

Speaking after the match, Maruful Haque insisted that his team is not in Maldives simply to gain experience but to compete for a place in the tournament final.

“We came here not for experience. We want to be in the final,” he said.

The Bangladesh coach felt his side had opportunities to take all three points and was encouraged by the performance despite the draw.

“We created a lot of chances, but unfortunately we couldn’t score. But the players tried, especially with 10 men in the last 30 minutes,” he added.

Bangladesh started brightly and created several openings before being reduced to 10 men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, they continued to battle throughout the second half and successfully denied Pakistan a winning goal.

The result leaves Bangladesh with a point from their opening fixture and provides a solid foundation as they continue their quest to reach the final of the Diamond Jubilee Tournament.

Having demonstrated resilience and determination under difficult circumstances, Bangladesh will take confidence into their next match as they look to turn strong performances into victories.
