Huraa Rally From Behind to Hold Green Streets in DPL Qualifiers Opener

Former Dhivehi League champions Huraa Sports Club came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Green Streets in the opening match of the Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) Qualifiers 2026/27.

The highly anticipated encounter marked the start of the qualification tournament, with both sides eager to begin their campaigns on a positive note. After an entertaining contest, the teams were forced to settle for a share of the points.

Green Streets made the brighter start and were rewarded with the opening goal, taking the lead and putting Huraa under pressure. The goal gave Green Streets confidence as they looked to take control of the match and secure all three points.

However, Huraa gradually grew into the game and showed the fighting spirit that once made them one of the most successful clubs in Maldivian football. The former champions pushed forward in search of an equalizer and were eventually rewarded when they found the back of the net to level the scores at 1-1.

The equalizer sparked renewed energy within the Huraa side, who continued to press for a winner. Green Streets also created opportunities of their own as both teams searched for a decisive goal during the closing stages of the match.

Despite chances at both ends, neither side was able to break the deadlock, with the match ending 1-1 after a competitive 90 minutes.

The result means both teams begin their qualification campaign with a point apiece. While Green Streets may feel disappointed after surrendering their lead, Huraa will take encouragement from their ability to respond after falling behind.

Attention now turns to the next round of fixtures. Huraa will face Gdh. Gadhdhoo as they look to build on their comeback performance and claim their first victory of the tournament.

Green Streets, meanwhile, will take on Biss Buru Sports Club in another important fixture as they continue their push for qualification to the Dhivehi Premier League.

With the opening match producing an entertaining contest and a dramatic comeback, the DPL Qualifiers 2026/27 have already made a promising start.
