Maldives Suffer Heavy Defeat Against India
Maldives suffered an 11-0 defeat to India in their opening Group B match of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 in Goa on Monday.
India dominated the match from start to finish, with Aveka Singh scoring four goals while Priyangka Naorem and Karishma added two each. Pyari Xaxa, Dangmei Grace and Sangita Basfore also got on the scoresheet.
The Maldivian women’s team struggled to create chances against the higher-ranked Indian side, who took a 5-0 lead into half-time before adding six more goals in the second half.
India will next face defending champions Bangladesh, while the Maldives will aim to bounce back in their upcoming fixture.
